The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology Issues Its Statement of Continued Combined Program Support

   In a recent letter issued by the ABPN, it remains clear that combined applicants and graduates will continue to enjoy all of the benefits of dual-board certification afforded to their single boarded colleagues.  While they note that new combined program development is on hold, this is true for all 18 combined specialties, not just those involving psychiatry.

   Importantly, the letter notes that no combined graduates have been denied state licensure or reimbursement for services to date and that the ABPN continues to not only support existing combined programs, but also to advocate for graduates alongside their traditional colleagues.

Congratulations to Dr. Dorothy Liu, Combined Program Resident and Now Fellow of the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute!

Our own Dr. Dorothy Liu is will be participating in the San Diego Psychoanalytic Society and Institute's (SDPSI) one-year Fellowship for mental health clinicians interested in psychoanalytic thinking and its application to clinical work.  The fellowship includes personal mentorship, monthly seminars, and free admission to SDPSI public events.  Fantastic!  She follows in the foot steps of Dr. Lamb...  Both proving once again that psychiatry is not just about medication!

The UCSD Combined Program Is There for the San Diego Cold Weather Shelter Opening!

Dr. Lamb (white coat) assists during the intake of over 220 shelter residentsThe city of San Diego's winter shelter for the homeless opened Monday at the foot of Newton Avenue in Barrio Logan. The shelter is operated by the Alpha Project for the Homeless and has beds for about 225 women and men.  Each year the UCSD Combined Program provides medical and psychiatric screening services and returns weekly to become the primary physicians for patients living in the "tent."

The 10th Annual Father Joe Thanksgiving 5K Is Almost Here!

    Father Joe’s Thanksgiving Day 5K draws more than 10,000 early-rising runners and walkers to raise funds to help Father Joe’s Villages prepare 1.7 million meals each year for neighbors in need.  The UCSD Combined Program benefits from the awareness generated by this event and many of our faculty and residents have participated over the years...  If you are in San Diego - this is a must not miss event! Thursday, November 24th, 2011 at 8am in Balboa Park...
