Dr. Roy Samorano earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Stanford University.  As a resident in the UCSD Combined Program he established himself as a leader at the interface between primary care and psychiatry and is fueled by a social conscience which is as contagious as it is admirable.  Roy was selected as a 2006-2007 American Psychiatric Association (APA) Minority Fellow and is a member of the APA's Council on Social Issues.  He was also one of the few residents selected to the California Association of Family Physicians (CAFP) Leadership Training Conference where he met with state legislators and learned important tools that will help him shape public health policy into the future.  He has a strong interest in migrant health issues and actively attends national conferences in this area.  Upon graduating from the combined program, Dr. Samorano joined the faculty as the lead physician in the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program and also cared for patients on the Mobile Health Clinic (MHC) as part of a Healthcare for the Homeless Initiative.  He currently works at the Escondido Community Health Clinic with almunus Dr. Gabrial Rodarte providing combined care.

"I was born and raised in Tucson , AZ , also known as the "Old Pueblo." I completed my undergraduate studies at Stanford University in Human Biology with an area of concentration in Health Care Policy. As part of my undergraduate course work I interned with the National Hispanic Medical Association for 3 months in Washington , DC , where I had the opportunity to work on U.S.-Mexico border health issues. After graduating from college, I found myself back in Washington , DC , as an intern for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFAR). The following year I returned to Stanford University for medical school.

The combined residents are all talented and inspiring individuals. I feel very fortunate to have been amongst them. The UCSD Combined Residency is a program with excellent mentors and tremendous opportunities."
