Luis Sandoval, M.D., MPH
Dr. Luis Sandoval earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California, Irvine and his medical degree from UC, Los Angeles. He had a lot of interests in medical school, many of them focused on underserved populations and public health. This led him to get Master’s in Public Health, with an emphasis on Health Science Administration and Management, jointly with his MD degree. He learned how health systems, including hospitals, clinics and other purveyors of health care are best organized from providing access to patients, adequate staffing, and reinforcing the importance of the organization’s mission, vision and values. During his time in medical school, he was also the co-founder of a non-profit organization: The Dengue Relief Foundation. While a resident he served as chief of both the combined program as well as the in-patient psychiatry service at UCSD, Hillcrest. He was also the recipient of the John Majda Foundation Award for his research on the impact of the therapeutic relationship on patients with suicidal ideation. After graduation, Dr. Sandoval worked in northern San Diego County with one of our other graduates, Dr. Gabe Rodarte. He has now moved a bit farther north to practice psychiatry in Orange County.
