Kelley DeLeeuw, MD, MPH
I came from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico after having grown up in the San Diego area. I earned my undergraduate degree from Duke University in Latin American Studies and Health Policy and my MPH from the University of North Carolina. My research has focused on addressing ethno-cultural factors in preventive health strategies among disadvantaged youth and I have written extensively in this area. I excelled throughout medical school and was an Alpha Kappa Pi inductee. I speak Spanish and Portuguese and enjoy the outdoors and teaching Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that makes a ritual of movements from martial arts, games, and dance.
My Likes: baked goods, dogs, "This American Life" podcast, coffee, how I feel after exercise, Thai food, Brazilian music, green mint chocolate chip ice cream, autobiographies
My Dislikes: whispering, indoor shopping malls, going to the dentist (I still go!), the middle seat in airplanes, and soda.
Life after Residency!
I'm the Behavioral Health Director at Imperial Beach Community Clinic. I helped establish an integrated Behavioral Health Program at our FQHCs. I still do part time family medicine as well as child, adult, and geriatric psychiatry. I do addiction psychiatry including alcohol and opiate use disorder treatment.
I'm also a clinical instructor at UCSD and work with residents and medical students at one of our high school clinics in the Southbay specializing in adolescent behavioral health.
