Julie Le, D.O.
Dr. Julie Le was born in Missouri and raised in the suburbs of Maryland. She attended undergrad at Princeton University with a B.A. in East Asian Studies, did one year of clinical research at the National Institutes of Mental Health with emphasis on Personality and Genetic studies of Adult Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patients, then went back to her birth state for medical school at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, she completed a one year psychiatry internship at King/Drew Medical Center then transferred to UC San Diego Combined Family Medicine and Psychiatry residency program. She wanted to be dually trained in both specialties to fulfill that need to treat “the whole patient”.
After completing her residency in 2008, her interests were in geriatric psychiatry and hospice psychiatry so she worked in UC San Diego Senior Behavioral Health doing psychiatry consultations at various assisted living facilities as well as San Diego Hospice and Institute for Palliative Medicine doing home visits until its closing in 2013. It was not until her continued part-time work at Neighborhood Healthcare, a community clinic, doing both medical and psychiatric care and 3 years of per diem psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente that she realized where her heart lies: helping a variety of patients in the primary care setting. She returned to UC San Diego in 2013 and transitioned over to doing solely Primary Care Psychiatry in spring of 2015. Dr. Le was Assistant Program Director of the Combined Program, where she helped make improvements to the recruitment, education, and support process for our combined residents. Today, she enjoys working with both family physicians and internists at 5 different outpatient clinic locations including Family Medicine Scripps Ranch and Genesee/La Jolla clinics and Internal Medicine Sorrento Valley, La Jolla, and Hillcrest clinics. She is honored to be able to provide psychiatric care in this manner and also work alongside Collaborative Care (counseling/therapy) for greater strides in treatment of patients.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Le enjoys hiking, traveling, eating good food, and spending time with family and friends.
“I am ever so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of the Combined family and learn from all of my attendings, staff, and patients when I was a resident. To be able to give back and return to St. Vincent’s de Paul with new and old faces and the chance to make a difference in the residency as well as the future of family medicine/psychiatry, it is hard not to smile and just cherish each day that is given to me.”
