Dr. Searles and the RecreationRx.org initiative have been awarded a Physicians for Healthy Communities Mini-Grant by the California Medical Association Foundation to support obesity prevention advocacy and outreach programs that enhance the well-being of California’s communities. The grant will be used to develop and enhance “starter kits” to help communities develop recreation prescription programs in their area for underserved families!

CHULA VISTA – When Sharon Yates' arthritis flared up, she rarely left the couch. The 64-year-old Chula Vista resident was gaining weight and feeling blue, cooped up with her husband, Bud, in their mobile home.

That was until her physician, Dr. Chris Searles, handed her a new “prescription” – a free, chair-yoga class at the Norman Park Senior Center on F Street – and urged her to go.

For the second year, Dr. Margaret McCahill was voted by physicians of the San Diego County Medical Society (SDCMS) as one of San Diego’s “Top Doctors for 2007.” Each year, the SDCMS polls local doctors about those they believe to be best among their peers, asking them, among other questions, “Who would you send a family member to?” in each medical specialty. The list is published annually in the October issue of San Diego Magazine 

Congratulations to our esteemed faculty member, Dr. David Folsom!  Dr. Folsom is the recipient of the California Academy of Family Physicians "Researcher of the Year" Award in acknowledgement of his tireless research in the area of the homeless and their access to physical and mental health services.  Yet another reason why we're all very proud to have Dr. Folsom on the faculty!

Dr. McCahill receives "2005 California Family Physician Educator of the Year" Award from the California Academy of Family Physicians Foundation

At the Annual Scientific Assembly of the California Academy of Family Physicians in Los Angeles , Margaret McCahill, M.D., the Founding Director of the Combined Residency, received this prestigious award. This award for educational excellence is presented in honor of Dr. Barbara Harris to one Family Physician educator in California annually. Congratulations to Dr. McCahill!
