Christian Small, MD
Chris Small is originally from the state of Maine. He completed his undergraduate coursework at the University of Southern Maine, followed by 3 years as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Western Samoa. During his Peace Corps tenure, he headed the science department at a local secondary school, secured funds to build a cafeteria and science lab at the school, and became the head science teacher at St. Mary’s College. He worked in Special Education and traveled some before entering medical school at the University of Hawaii. In medical school, Chris was the clinic manager of Homeless Outreach and Medical Education (HOME), a project to connect those in shelters with clinical services. He co-founded Outbound Eye Health International, and created and executed a mission to deliver eye screening and eye glasses to medically underserved residents of rural Western Samoa, including the coordination of cataract surgery by volunteer specialists. Chris's interests include cross-cultural psychiatry, palliative care, and underserved medicine. Outside of work he enjoys sailing, biking, and playing his guitar.
